Member Spotlight : Anna C.
- How long have you been a member of SPENGA?
Since August 22, 2021.
- What initially drew you to SPENGA?
When SPENGA showed up in my internet search, I was intrigued by the 20-20-20 set-up. Jen was my 1st instructor and she stuck with me through the very last minute, with me being the only one left in yoga. The workout challenged me physically and mentally and Jen was so welcoming, encouraging and had a pretty great music set. Jen set the tone for the subsequent sessions I signed up for that 1st week. That's when I realized SPENGA wasn't just a great workout, but the staff, instructors and members are too.
- How has SPENGA impacted you outside of the studio?
SPENGA has reminded me that it is ok to make myself a priority and that self-care isn't selfish. It has challenged me physically and mentally, which has impacted several aspects of my life. SPENGA has helped me level-up in life, holistically, and I find myself sharing my SPENGA story with everyone who notices the changes.
- What are your goals?
To keep this journey going while seeing and feeling myself get stronger and healthier - physically and mentally.
- Where can we find you when you aren’t at SPENGA?
Working from home M-F, relaxing in front of the fireplace in the winters, floating in the pool in the summers, book club (I love to read), kids' various sports/activities, volunteering at church as a Pre-K teacher and youth group leader, organizing NLSA events and training team parents as the NLSA Board Parent Volunteer Coordinator and hanging out with my favorite grown-up (my husband), our families, our dogs and friends.
- What is your favorite local restaurant?
Gina's Teardrop Café in New Lenox for her Teardrop Salad & Chipotle Egg Benedict. Oh, and the daily soup - every day is good soup!
- What is your favorite healthy meal or cocktail?
Homemade hot smoked salmon sushi bowl with cauliflower rice, shredded carrots, cucumbers, edamame, avocado, furikake, roasted nori, drizzled with homemade spicy (light) mayo and sugar free "eel" sauce. Adult coffee aka Carajillo 43: Licor 43 & espresso/coffee topped with frothed unsweetened almond milk!
- Best piece of advice you can give to someone just starting out their fitness journey?
Your fitness journey will be full of surprises, the kind where your body shows you how much it can do. Surprise yourself and celebrate every milestone - big and small. Before you know it, you're leveling up in ways you once thought you couldn't.
