SPENGA Crew Spotlight: Amanda M.

IMG_5813How long have you been at SPENGA or instructing at SPENGA?

I started working out at SPENGA almost 7 years ago. I loved it so much, I became an instructor. I have been teaching now for almost 6 years.

What is your favorite memory WERKING at SPENGA?

My favorite memory would definitely be teaching my first Latin-themed session. Talk about having a party, these members know how to work hard and have fun at the same time. Every time I plan a Latin-themed playlist, I get to bring a little bit of my childhood and Hispanic roots to the session. I hope the members love it as much as I do.

What is your favorite format to teach?

My favorite format to teach is Tabata 30/15. As a fitness professional, it gives me the opportunity to focus on each and every member. If you need assistance with your form, I’ve got you. But the BEST part of Tabata is watching the improvement of our members in both strength and endurance week after week. There’s no better feeling than watching a new member go from timid to confident in a matter of a few weeks.

Where can we find you when you are not at SPENGA?

If I’m not at SPENGA, you can find me at my most favorite and important job ever, at home being a Mom and wife to my 2 teenage boys, my husband, Kurt, and my chocolate lab, Walter. Sounds boring but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It all goes by so fast.

What is your fav go-to snack/meal after a SPENGA werkout? (be specific if it’s a brand)

After I work out, I try my best to eat a protein-packed meal. I usually grab one of my Factor pre-prepped meals, warm it up, and enjoy. It’s perfectly portioned with all the essential nutrients. I’m also not perfect! If there are fries anywhere around me I’m eating them. Also, have you ever tried Sanders dark chocolate sea salt caramels? Definitely a guilty pleasure.

What song get’s you hyped?

The first song that came to my mind was DO or DIE by Afrojack vs Thirty Seconds to Mars. I first heard this song while I was running. My dad was kicking cancer’s butt and handling chemo like a champ. The song just reminded me of the strength, both mentally and physically that came with such an exhausting and grueling fight. My dad has since lost his fight with cancer, but this song still reminds me that he never stopped fighting. Now, when I work out, I remind myself that I don’t have to do this, I get to.
