How long have you been a member of SPENGA?

Since November 2021

What do you love about SPENGA?

The best things are the variety of workouts, and the fact that everything is planned – specific exercises, rep counts, time, music, etc.  I don’t have to plan it out and keep track, I just get to go work out, work different parts every day and get a full cardio, strength and recovery workout done in an hour.

What initially drew you to SPENGA?

I would be lying if I didn’t say my wife convinced me to try a session.  She started a few months before me and got me to go with her for my birthday.  I had never done spin previously, and had very little experience with yoga, so I didn’t know what to expect really, but I think it’s turned into a very positive part of my day.

How has SPENGA impacted you outside of the studio?

It’s had a tremendous impact on me, physically and mentally.  I was very athletic when I was younger, but age and injuries, and then a desk job and family meant little time to work out, and I put on a lot of weight. I ended up having surgery on my back and both knees, and never really took the time to properly recover.  Starting to work out with SPENGA has put me back into a better place physically, which helps give me the energy (physical and mental) to do more at work, at home, and in my volunteer roles.

Describe how the SPENGA WERKOUT makes you feel?

I try to attend the earliest session of a particular day. Usually, I feel physically exhausted but ready to recover and start my day.  The energy boost comes after that and helps me get ready for the next day’s cycle of exercise, recovery and energy.

What is your favorite local restaurant?

Favorite is a hard one to do, because I like a variety of different cuisines, but for Mexican food my family and I really like Camino Viejo. It’s located off LaGrange Rd. in one of the little outbuildings in the plaza with the Emagine theater,  and the food has been great each time we’ve gone.

What is your favorite healthy meal or cocktail?

I would say my favorite healthy meal is smoked salmon, especially in the summer with fresh veggies or a salsa made from our garden.

Best piece of advice you can give to someone just starting out their fitness journey.

Just keep going.  Find a routine and make it a habit.  You can’t help other people if you don’t take time in your day to help yourself, and fitness is a great way to practice some self-care.
